FROM A LETTER FROM LOUISE DISHMAN: Lucinda McCown, the mother of Andrew, emerges as a kind, courageous woman who
endured hardship with dignity andn managed her life in a respectable fashion. The mother of ten, having lost one
baby daughter earlier, she was widowed in her early forties, her husband, James, a victim of cholera enroute to Texas
with Lucinda and their children. A son, John, (probably the 2nd son) also died during the journey. Lucinda continued
on, raised all 8 of her remaining children and eventually mothered several grandchildren and great grandchildren who
had been orphaned early in their lives. She saw four of her grown sons go to war for a doomed cause, heard an account
that her son, Andrew, died at the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. As it turned out, all four sons survived that
War. She lived to a good old age, loved and respected by her large clan of descendants. She never remarried, a widow
more than 50 years. OBITUARY OF LUCINDA MCCOWN A mother in Israel has fallen. Mrs. L. C. McCown died
at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. in Zephyr, Brown County, Texas, Wednesday morning at 1 o clock February 15,

and was married J. P. McCown in that State. Her husband died with cholera in New Orleans while en route to in 1851

taking her history religiously, socially, financially, and in the home. She well. She loved her church and was
a friend to the Methodist preacher. It was my happy priviledge to be very intimately acquainted with Great Grandma
McCown, as she was familiarly called. She was a Methodist after the old type. I always found her with an faith
in the promises of the heavenly Father and ready to give a reason for the hope that was her. After having a conversation
with her I always felt prepared for the duties and What a blessing to the church is such mothers. She is not

Isaac lived on Drake's Creek in Logan, later Simpson Co., KY until 1827, then to Lincoln Co, TN. fore 1650. Soon after
his landing he applied for land warrants and received first "Cheney's Hill", lying on the South River. It
is evident that he was single when he arrived in the Province, because between the years 1634 and 1682 no female
by the name of Cheney was listed among the immigrants. He, however, married twice, but the name of his first wife is
unsure. By negotiating other warrants 12 ABRAHAM CONN MCCOWN b. MAR 1833 LINCOLN

FOR 6 MONTHS. FROM THE TEXAS ARCHIEVES: A Mortuary Warrant Application filled out in the County of Harris,
TX, by Mrs. Lillie Rosenthal who certifies that she is the one paying the indebtedness and accounts of one S. G.
MCCown, a pensioner of the state of Texas who died on the 5th day of April, 1931, in the town of Houston, TX, County
of Harris. It states that she was his daughter, living at 719 Ridge St., Houston, TX. The physician's statement
said that he died of Myocarditis. Pension records in the possession of H. Anne Whiteman show tht he was discharged
at the end of the war, 1865. He was 76 when he applied for an indigent circumstances pension, and had lived in TX since
1851. He was living in Lavaca Co., but had lived in Gonzales Co for several years. He applied for a pension while
living in Gonzales, but it was rejected because he owned more than $1000 worth of property. That application showed
that he owned $120 worth of land. He had rheumatism. It said he was indigent. A physician's statement said
that he had respiratory 26, pulse 96 sitting. Had insufficiency of mitral valve, some nervous trouble which caused insufficiency
of knee action, and had considerable senile debility. (1908) A.C. McCown and Rob Bishop signed interrogratories for
him. He was in Co A, 8th Texas Infantry, and was never transferred. Young's Regiment. Two affiants supplied information
about his being in the service in an affidavit required for the pension, T. B. Coleman, from the same regiment, and L.
S. ??? - maybe Pepper, could be Coffen? On January 18, 1914, a dcotro certified that S.G. McCown had cataracts
in each eye which rendered him unfit for any work as he was almost blind. (Dr. E. H. Schwab). On April
14, 1913, an attorney named W. F. Adams from Yoakem, Texas, wrote and asked what the status of the pension was.
Finally, on April 5, 1931, a Mortuary Warrant was issued in the county of Harris, Texas, certifying the death of
Solomon G. McCown. His daughter, Lillie Rosenthal, gave the information. She lived at 719 Ridge St., Houston, Harris
County, TX. Solomon died of myocarditis. 13 MARY ELLEN MCCOWN b. 1859 d. 1950

From a letter from Clarence Whittington, who was 81 at the time of its writing in 1981: His grandmother, wife
of Andrew Jackson McCown, Jr., died giving birth to his mother, Martha Angeline McCown Whittington. He further stated
that Andrew J. McCown traveled from one climate to another due to asthma, during the childhood of his children.
This fits with the story of his wife Lula Jane Malone McCown, supposed left alone with 10 children. He comments
that "Aunt Roe" (Rosanna) Davenport died as the first of the McCown sisters in her early 50's of cancer. Her
husband, Dee Davenport, known to be a hard man, died in his 80's. Aunt Cell (Marcella) lived to be 91 and died
after breaking her hip. He said that Uncle Gus died of a heart attack and Aunt Bood (Beulah) lost her mind, but he doesn't
know how she died. Uncle Bud (Andrew Jackson McCown) died at age 75, outlived by his second wife. He states
his mother told some interesting tales about Brown County property. It seems that the City of Brownwood was very near
160 acres of land that Grandfather McCown (Andrew Jackson McCown) sold and gave a quit claim deed which would revert
to the McCown children when they became of age, but they all "slept away their rights" as they failed to enter
suit in the specified time. According to the story his mother told, there were fortunes made from a granite factory
on that property. His mother was "Aunt Matt", Martha McCown Whittington. The McCowns moved to Montague
Co., but grandfather McCown never stayed in one place long due to his asthma. He evidently died there because he is
interred there. Note: The letters from Clarence Whittington are warm and charming. It would have been
nice to know this fellow. As of this writing, I believe he is still alive (1992). Anne Whiteman. Of the
brothers, Andrew enlisted in the Civil War first, in the C.S.A. His first unit was Robertson's Five-Shooters Infantry,
