It was on a Sunday evening when the sun shone in the sky
As he walked his way to the gaelic pitch never thinking he was going to die.
But as he crossed the checkpoint, the sound of gunfire came.
The news spread through the border town, Aidan McAnespies dead.
Oh why did you do it, have you not the guts to say?
You say it was an accident, or even a richoet.
Just like Loughgall and Gibraltar, your lives are well renowned, you murdered Aidan McAnespie on his way to the gaelic grounds.
For years he was harassed by the forces of the crown
As he went to work every day he left his native town.
The British Army swore that they would get him
For reasons no one could say
And sure enough they murdered him in cold blood that sunny day.
The people heard the gunfire
They came from miles around
They saw that young man lying there
He was dying on the ground.
His hold of life was ending fast
And so people they tried their best
But the bullet wound was far too deep
It passed right through his chest
Oh why did you ..................
Aidan's lfe had ended
It was time for judgement day
That British soldier jumped down for the tower
And the coward he slipped away
God's curse on you Britian
For this cruel deed that you've done
But God will have his final say when your day of judgement comes
You say it was an accident
Thats the greatest crime of all
For his heart broken family
The worst they could recall
A cross marks that lonely spot where Aidan was shot down
As he walked on that sunny evening
On his way to the gaelic grounds.
Oh why did you............
..........................
Yes you murdered Aidan McAnespie on his way to the gaelic grounds.
