Situation of Chiapas
Chiapas is a state in the South East of Mexico. It is the 8th in size, second in honey and a proud third place is rewarded to it in matter of beans and corn productions. And stupid me almost forgot about the glorious gold medal obtained by Chiapas for coffee. Yes numero uno! How could I forget!? I don't know I either have amnesia or... I just did not want to say the naked but ugly truth that the going rate of coffee is 8 pesos while the 'going rate' or salary of the producers is 2 and 1/2. But I guess that if you are reading this piece of information is to find out why did the EZLN, Zapatista National Liberation Army, rose in arms on the 1st of January of 1994.
Agriculture there also involves the seemingly endless list of delicious friandises of the warm and exotic regions of our contaminated planet: sugar cane and mango and ...Cattle raising is also important, yes another third place in the national agrarian olympic games! But unfortunately, few Chiapas inhabitants will have the opportunity to eat them because they are just for exportation.
The forests are witnesses of their own beauty, but the poor is not a witness of her/his idealisticaly own resources. Why? Because, once again, the precious and current types of woods found here are for exportation. Furthermore Chiapas has also 30% of the surface of water of the nation. Of course this resource is not exported but only 56,8% of the people have access to drinking water. Even worse this 'clean' water becomes transparent only in the cities while the rural areas have it as brown as the land that they can not have.
The industry of sugar, cheese, coffe, chemical and others exist in this state. This seems to be very diversified but actually the production is quite behind in the long run of industrial 1500 metres of the national industrial olympic games. I am sorry but not first in this area.
There two small aeroports and two of medium size. One of them is in Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital. It is one of the richest of the country if we look at oil, woods, mines... It is also one of the main energy creator.
Doesn't this just sounds lovely? I mean why is there such a revolt in Chiapas if it is a state with an economy so diversed? Oh wait, I forgot to show you the figures and how much this rich state of Mexico shares its wealth. Let's go to a trip to Chiapas!
This is unjust, but beautiful state of Mexico, is considered the place with the most inequalities and this is due to, among others, the existence of a government who only cares about protecting the whealthiest people.
