Christopher Wreh, cousin of AC Milan superstar George Weah, joined arsenal in the summer of 1997, in perhaps the greatest spending binge in Arsenal history. Wreh did not make his mark until later in the season where we needed him most. The 1998 FA Cup Semifinal was between us and the Wolverhampton Wolves. We were decimated with the absences of both Ian Wright and Dennis Bergkamp. This left only Nicolas Anelka and Christopher Wreh to deputise. As the underdog Wreh got the first and only goal on the 12th minute, leading us to a finals meeting with Newcastle in which Wreh helped us greatly with the subsequent loss of Dennis Bergkamp for that half of our double as well. The 1999 season yielded Wreh very few chances for Arsenal with his only good match coming in the Charity Shield in which he scored once. His only other opportunities came in our busted champions league campaign. Due to his lack of finding a secure first team place and the transfer of Nwankwo Kanu to highbury, Wreh departed to AEK Athens on loan with Alberto Mendez. Wreh's time so far at AEK has given him many first team starts and even a few goals to go with that. Although Mendez's future at the Greek club may be prolonged, Wreh is expected to come back in August although his time at Arsenal may still be limited with the possible acquisitions of Dani and Robbie Fowler.
