What can I say...I love drawing and painting my Myspace friends! This woman's gaze "spoke" to me. I didn't know exactly what it was "saying" to me, but I knew that I wanted to capture it on paper. Every good artist knows that a portrait should encompass more than the mere likeness of the sitter...it should say something about the person's personality or soul. I'm still trying to decide what I see here...so, what do you see? :-)

This drawing is a second, successful "stab" at capturing the tragic, but beautiful, sex symbol, for a client's commissioned piece. In effect, the client LIKED the first piece (see below picture, "Marilyn"), but she wanted a pose that showed more of her than just her gorgeous face....here are the results :-)

This picture - a drawing of the iconic and most eternal sex symbol, of ALL TIME, Marilyn Monroe - is a commissioned piece. So, this, in effect, was "a job". What can I say? Some jobs are better than others! :-)
Andromeda

In Greek mythology, Andromeda was a young woman who was the daughter of Cassiopeia and Cepheus, the king of Ethiopia. Andromeda's mother claimed that her daughter was more beautiful than the sea nymphs, the Nereids. The Nereids complained to the sea god, Poseidon, who threatened to send a flood and a sea monster to destroy the kingdom. The king was advised to sacrifice his daughter. Andromeda was chained to a sea-cliff to be eaten by the sea monster. In my simplistic picture (a revisit of an old subject, from my 1997 painting, "Devastation" - see below), Andromeda is chained to a different type of rock: the seemingly unmoveable rock that has society's set-in-stone idea of beauty - dangerously thin, almost to the point of emaciation. This muscular goddess is more than equipped to deal with the world's outdated and limited notion of what should be pleasing to the eye. :-)
