This Activity may be planned as two week long project that will have students create and record a picture journal of their observations through a microscope of protozoans that live in local pond water.  This can include an in classroom aquarium, that can be stocked by the teacher, or perhaps an outing to a local park could be a seguey into the lesson.

This may be a helpful link to determine, and identify what the students may encounter in their observations.

A good way to record observations is by drawing what they see.  Use the dot shading method to draw the lab drawings.  An index card is a good medium for drawing on one side, and labeling and note taking on the other side of the card.

The class over a two week period of time may possible identify 50 or more different species of protozoans and algae.
