Turn On the Light
Build a small floor platform and 4 foot frame. In this project, gradually build a building frame complete with a roof, and ceiling. In the process, use house wrap, insulation, wiring, plumbing, lighting and switches. Try to use low voltage lighting for the room complete with a transformer for safety. make a cross section so you can see how each element of the house crossection is built, and integrate this in the day to day class activities. You can learn how a switch is wired, and demonstrate how a single pole single throw switch works along with a three way switch.
Most of the materials can be purchased @ Home Depot for a resonable price.
One sheet of Drywall.
One batt of insulation.
25 feet of Romex Wire.
Wire ties.
Electrical boxes.
One two way switch.
One Three way switch.
One sheet of Plywood.
10 eight foot two by fours.
Box of 8 penny framing nails.
One roll of House Wrap.

A smoke Alarm.
You can list the cost of each project as each portion progresses. You can have the students brainstorm what should be added to the project, and perhaps you can even finish the room by the end of the school year!
Keep for future school years, and add to the project. Show how a general contractor would use the same cost methods to cost out building a house.
