In the Christian
cemetery at Batu Gajah in the State of Perak are the
graves of 116 members of the Military,Police and
Civilians who were killed by terrorists during the
Emergency. For many years these graves had been neglected
and in 1980 the Officer Commanding Police District (OCPD)
,Superintendent R.Thambipillay*,took upon himself to
do something about the situation. His efforts,in
conjunction with the Perak Planters Association, have
resulted in maintenance of the graves and, since 1980, an
annual rememberance ceremony (2nd.Saturday in June) which
attracts people from many countries. The history of this
enterprise plus many other "Emergency"
tales, facts and figures has been compiled by
Mr.R.Thambipillay and published by the Perak Planters
Assn. under the title "God's Little Acre".
