Astrological Significance

Uranus is associated with originality and unconventionality - areas in which we break away from convention and explore new ways of doing things.

The House position of Uranus shows the area of our life which is most open to innovation or unconventional thinking or experiences. It also shows which areas of your life are likely to experience change. For example, when Uranus is in the part of your chart to do with meeting people (the Eleventh House), you may be especially inclined to meet unusual people. Note that Uranus moves even more slowly than Jupiter and Saturn. This means that any effects it has through being in a particular house will work over a very long period of time, and may not be noticeable on a day-to-day basis.

The aspects which Uranus makes with other planets show those energies which are likely to be subject to change and innovation. For example, an aspect to Mercury would suggest that you are likely to be especially attracted to unusual conversations, or that your thought processes are going to be especially innovative.

Astronomical details

Uranus was discovered in 1781 by the English astronomer William Herschel. It is almost fifteen times more massive than the Earth, and is fifty times larger. Its atmosphere extends to an altitude of several thousand kilometres, and consists largely of methane. The planet also has a ring system.
