While it is quite possible to work out the positions of the planets in your chart without using a computer, this takes a great deal of training. You also need a copy of an emphemeris and a table of houses in order to do the calculation. A much easier method is to use a computer program. Although you cannot do a proper analysis of your chart using a computer, the mechanical process of creating the chart in the first place is best done this way, rather than by hand.
