"Summer Fling"
We sat on the cliffs
Over the evening ocean,
Talking about things that
I can no longer recall.

I never knew that
Life could be so beautiful.

The salty, humid wind
Tousled your dirty blond hair.
You smiled slyly at me
As you jumped into the sea.

I never knew that
Life could be so beautiful.

I jumped in after you
Without hesitation, and
You kissed my soaking skin,
And swam into the sunset.

I never knew that
Life could be so beautiful.

Those were the days of summer
When I felt that my heart
Would burst from happiness.
I never thought it would end.

I never knew that
Life could be so beautiful.

But the night soon came--
With nothing but glossy photos
Of our ecstatic faces
To remember my summer fling.

I never knew that
Life could be so cruel.
