How Do I Make my hair look real?

People often ask me How I make my hair look so real.
Well my grandma was a hairstylist....so maybe I inherited her talent..... LOL!

No seriously, anyone who likes to draw or play with your graphics programs can learn to edit hair.  When I first started out, I used my mouse to draw in a few pixels of hair and highlights to touch up the Palace Heads.  When I got a request and didnt have a head to match the description, I would just grab a head and start editing until I was satisfied.  After a year and a half of editing, I accumulated a lot of my head edits (always save your work...you may use it later!)

Soon, I got bored with re-inventing palace hairstyles.  I wanted to have some heads that were unique to my 'style'.  So I began editing the heads more heavily...and eventually went to using bald palace heads, drawing every pixel of the hair.  Many of the custom heads I have done over the past 6 months are 100% hand drawn hair.  I also have a couple hundred heads that are 100% my work, including the heads, faces, and hair.  You will be seeing these heads in days to come!

If you are interested in learning to edit your own heads, there are some great hair tuts to study, which I will post on this page.

One tip..... try make your heads unique to you.
Anyone can cut, crop, paste, and re-color.   But cutting and pasting is not 'Original' work.  For example, if you were to crop and paste my hand-drawn curls onto your head, then it would not be 'your' work, it would be my work....which you cropped and pasted.  In other words, it would be and 'edit' of my head.  Yes, I cut and cropped with some of my my earlier palace edits.  But most of my heads I have done in the past 6-9 months are made by hand-drawing the hair onto palace bald heads.  If  I cut and crop these days, I cut and paste my own curl, wave, layer patterns.  That way I can feel confident in saying that my editing is 'my own work'.

It takes talent to draw your own original hair.   Many of you are blooming artists, so why not develop your talent, take a few tuts and try to draw your own hair.  If I can do it, so can you.  It just takes a little studying and a lot of practice.  The more you practice...the better you get!  I think you will find it rewarding to see where your creative energy can lead you.

So.....be brave.....take some tuts, and see what great
hairstyles you can come up with all on your own.  It's a lot of fun!!!
