Marcy Playground

Marcy Playground is a fairly *NEW* band (to the Nation Wide Audience) that has released it's Hit (#6 Alternative Rock Top 20) Sex And Candy. When I bought this album I didn't know what to expect. I had seen various reviews, one of which was not very favorable for Marcy Playground ALT ROCK REVIEW). However, as I listened to the CD, I found it had many GOOD tracks. For the ocassional NEW music type, it's more folkish tracks (later on the CD) may be not to your liking. However these tracks especially "Vampires of NewYork" bear much resemblance to They Might Be Giants.

In all, a congrats goes out to the musicians of Marcy Playground. This CD is filled with excellent acoustic guitar, and lyrics.

As far as local venues, Marcy Playground especially likes to play Jolene (in Raleigh, NC) and Athenaeum (NC). I first hear this band on WKNC 88.1 (aka NCSU's Musical Edge) They especially like the track "Poppies", which is about the birth of Opium as a drug.
