Brad must know the airline schedule between Houston and Detroit because he's been back and forth between the two cities quite a bit since 1996. After breaking into the majors with the San Diego Padres in 1993, he was traded to the Tigers in 1996. Brad then spent two seasons with the Astros (1997-98), before returning to Detroit for two more. When 2000 came to a close, it was, you guessed it, back to Houston. Brad was part of a six-player trade that saw the Tigers and Astros exchange catchers, with Mitch Meluskey heading to the Motor City.

Brad can probably put down some roots in Southeastern Texas after a 2001 season that saw him win his first Gold Glove. He started 120 of 162 games behind the plate and threw out 41 of 86 (.477) would-be basestealers, the second-highest rate in the major leagues behind Cincinnati's Jason LaRue (.609). Brad is well respected by pitchers who appreciate his athleticism and ability to call a game. Although he's better known for his defensive skills, he's a consistent hitter who usually produces close to 50 RBI and a .265 to .275 batting average. Brad, who played on the same high-school baseball team with hockey's Brian Leetch, holds a degree in government from Dartmouth College.
