Catching & Pitching in the Same Game |
Since 1900 there have only been five occasions where a catcher has also pitched in the same game. However, there have been several other times that a non-catcher player has pitched and caught in the same game. The most remarkable is Cardinals' and Red Sox pitcher Mike Ryba who went behind the plate ten times in his career. In fact, in a July 19, 1942 doubleheader against the Indians at Fenway Park, Ryba caught in both games and the pitching starter in the nitecap.
