The weak-hitting Butera played eight years in the Twins system before serving as
Minnesota's backup catcher for 1980 through 1982. His experience as a batting practice
pitcher paid off in the NL; he pitched a scoreless inning for the Expos in 1985,
and one for the Reds in 1986. Released by Cincinnati, he re-signed with Minnesota
to play for the 1987 World Champions.
