Biography
Brook was a career .282 hitter entering 2001 so it wouldn't surprise anyone to see him bounce back after he struggled to
find his stroke last season. The Orioles liked what they saw from Brook after acquiring him from the Chicago White Sox
midway through 2000. He hit .322, with nine homers and 28 RBI, in 53 games with the O's after going .272-5-21 in 40
outings with the Sox. Brook hit .337 in September, including .377 over his last 17 games, and finished fifth among
American League catchers in slugging percentage (.507).
Brook missed the first 43 games of 2000 with a broken foot, but was still able to hit a career-high 14 homers and equal his career-best RBI total (49). He increased his batting average each month and hit .347 vs. left-handed pitchers. Brook, who was originally drafted by the New York Mets, hit .297 for the White Sox in 1999 which was second among AL catchers (minimum of 300 at-bats) to the .332 posted by Ivan Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers. It was the highest average by a Sox catcher in 29 years.
