A roommate and favorite catcher of Walter Johnson, Gharrity became a coach when Johnson
managed the Senators and Indians. The versatile Gharrity also played first base and
outfield. He hit .310 as Washington's regular catcher in 1921.
Patsy Gharrity had the misfortune of being behind the plate three times when Ty Cobb stole home (1920, 1921 & 1922). This indignity tied Muddy Ruel's record who also fell victim to Cobb three times.
