Hall of Fame catcher, Raymond William Cracker Schalk played for 18 years (1912-1929) primarily in the American League for the Chicago White Sox, and his last year with the New York Giants. He led all catchers in Fielding Average five times. Schalk played all of his games as a catcher. Ray was a member of the infamous 1919 Chicago "Black Sox" but was never involved in the scandal. He was elected to the Hall Of Fame in 1955 by the Veterans' Committee.

Hall of Fame catcher, William Buck Ewing played for 18 years (1880-1897) in the National League for Troy, New York, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. He led the league in Home Runs (10) in 1883 and in Triples (20) in 1884. His career total of 178 Triples is the all-time high for catchers. Besides backstop, Ewing also played 1B, OF, 3B, 2B, SS, and even pitched.

Boston's Carlton Fisk's famous willing the ball fair in the bottom of the 12th inning in game 6 of the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. The pitch off of Pat Darcy on October 21, 1975 gave the Red Sox a 7-6 win to tie the Series up 3-3.

Joe Torre (STL) holds the catcher season record for the most plate appearances (704) and batting over .325 which he accomplished in 1970 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Joe's career batting average is .297, which ranks as the 9th highest for catchers.

Yadier Molina (STL) tags out the Dodgers' Manny Rameriz in 2009 action. Molina is not only great at home plate but also has been the very best catcher at picking off baserunners who were napping at first base.

Ernie Schnozz Lombardi was the 11th catcher inducted into the Hall Of Fame. Slow of foot but strong with his bat he hit .306 over 17 seasons with the Reds and the Giants. He won the N.L. Batting Title in 1938 & 1942 and was named an All-Star eight times. He was N.L. MVP in 1938.

Deacon McGuire who caught for 26 seasons over 29 years (1884-1912) holds the record for being the Oldest Catcher when he caught his 1,781st game on 5/18/1912 at age 48 years, 6 months and 0 days.

Hall Of Fame Catcher, Josh Gibson was considered the greatest hitter of the black baseball leagues. Called the "Black Babe Ruth", Gibson hit about 800 home runs in the 17 years he played, including 75 in the 1931 season. He played mostly for teams in and around Pittsburgh, including the Homestead Grays and the Pittsburgh Crawfords. Gibson was inducted into the HOF in 1972.

Sandy Alomar Jr. (2006 CHW) batting against Oakland. Sandy is the only Major League Catcher to have hit a home run in the Regular Season, the All-Star Game, the Division Series, the League Championship Series, and the World Series in the same year, which he accomplished in 1997 while playing for the Cleveland Indians.

MVP and 13 Gold Glove & 7 Silver Slugger Awards winner Ivan Rodriguez and future Hall-Of-Famer whose career Slugging Average of .479 consisted of fifteen consecutive seasons (1993-2007) slugging over .400 is the best all-time among catchers.

Hall Of Famer and two-time MVP winner Gordon Stanley "Mickey" Cochrane whose lifetime batting average of .320 is the best all-time among catchers. He also holds the catcher record for having eight years with an On-Base Percentage of .400 or more.

Art Wilson (Arthur Earl "Dutch" Wilson), pictured in 1913 with the New York Giants, caught for 14 seasons (1908 to 1921) first with the Giants then with Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston and Cleveland.

The only player to have hit a home run in his very first at-bat (September 12, 1986) and his first All-Star at-bat (July 12, 1988) was catcher Terry Steinbach, who played for 14 seasons (11 with Oakland & 3 with Minnesota).

Joe Torre, former catcher, as Manager of the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers is one of 114 ex-catchers who managed in the Major Leagues. He holds the record as having the HIGHEST CAREER WINS OVER EXPECTED (58.7). Joe also managed the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals and has a won/loss record of .539 (2081/1783). He won 4 World Series and holds 2 AL Championships.
