Schlei, whose name sounded the same as that of a bluff, popular, and controversial
Spanish-American War admiral, was a pretty good defensive catcher who went to the
Giants in the three-way trade that sent Roger Bresnahan to St. Louis.
Admiral Schlei is one of just 76 catchers who have served in the military.
