Charlie Silvera holds the record for World Series Splinters.
Silvera, the Yankees' backup catcher from 1948 to 1956, was eligible to play in the Fall Classics of 1950-1953, 1955-56, but didn't
appear in any of the 37 Series games in those six years. Silvera got his one taste of glory in 1949, going 0-for-2 in his only World Series game.
Miscellaneous WS Catcher Trivia
Mickey Grasso is the only former Prisoner Of War (POW) to play in a World Series.
He was held by the Germans in North Africa during World War II. He subsequently caught 322 games for the Giants, Senators, and Indians (1946-1955). In 1954 he played in the WS for the Indians.
