Yost hit .309 at Vancouver (Pacific Coast League) in 1980 to earn a promotion to the Brewers, but was never more than a backup catcher in the ML. After four seasons with Milwaukee he was one of two players traded to Texas for Jim Sundberg, and he played a career-high 80 games (78 as catcher) with the Rangers in 1984, hitting .182.

Yost played six seasons in the Major Leagues with Milwaukee (1980-83), Texas (1984) and Montreal (1985). He appeared in 219 games, batting .212 with 16 HR and 64 RBI...Was a member of the 1982 American League Champion Brewers..Smacked his only home run of the 1982 season on 9/29 at Boston.....the ninth-inning, 3-run shot over the Green Monster off Mark Clear helped to give the Brewers a 4.0-game lead with five games to play...Was originally drafted by New York-NL in 1974 (first round, secondary phase).. .Was acquired by the Brewers in the Rule 5 Draft in December, 1977...Finished his playing career in the Braves minor-league system in 1987.

Ned holds the dubious achievement of having the Worst Career Percentage in Throwing Out Runners with 12.1% (22 of 182 attempts).

Coaching Career:
Spent 12 seasons on the Major League coaching staff of the Braves from 1991-2002...Atlanta won their division in each season that Yost was on the staff with the exception of the strike-shortened 1994 season...Was bullpen coach for Atlanta from 1991-98 and then third-base coach from 1999-2002.

Managerial Career:
Named as anager of the Milwaukee Brewers on 10/29/02, replacing Jerry Royster in his first Major League managing position. Completed his fourth year as manager  in 2006 and finished in fourth place in the National League Central Division, going 75-87.....his overall record now stands at 291-356 (.450)...Recorded his 200th career victory on 8/31/05 in a 6-5 win vs. Pittsburgh, becoming the fifth manager in Brewers history to reach that mark.
