you work with numbers to prepare budgets. It is a spreadsheet application.
3) Microsoft Access:
is a database program that organizes information such as addresses or inventory
items.
4) Frontpage: is a web
page application that enables you to create and maintain your own website.
5) Powerpoint: a
presentation application which can be used to create slides, outlines, speaker's
notes, and audience handouts.
How do I open
a file?
1) Opening a file means loading a file from a disk onto your computer screen
2) One way to open a file is to choose File, Open from the menu.
How do I
save
a file?
1) Saving a file stores it on disk.
2) To save, the user may choose either File, Save As; File, Save; or the disk
icon from the menu.
What is the difference
between Save As and Save?
1) The 1st time the user saves a document or gives it another filename, File,
Save As is chosen. The user then determines if they want to save to the
"A" or "C" drive.
2) When a user wants to "resave" a document after changes are made,
they those File, Save.
What are
filenames?
1) Names given to files when saving a file. They provide a unique
description of the document or file.
2) When naming a file, the user is limited to a maximum of 255 characters or
letters.
3) The filename can also have spaces within the name , but some characters are
excluded.
How do I close
a document?
1) Choosing either File, Close from the menu or pressing the Close button
(looks like an X at the top right of the application)

What is a default
setting?
1) It is a setting that is already built into the software or
computer.
2) It is the one used unless another option is chosen.
What is the Internet?
1) It is a vast network of computers linked to one another.
2) It allows people around the world to share information and ideas through Web
pages, newsgroups, mailing lists, chats, email, and electronic files.
3) One connects to the internet using special hardware (modem or network cables)
and special software (MSN, AOL, Earthlink, etc.).
4) You may access the Internet through any Office
XP application or program.

1) They are web addresses used to identify web documents.

company.
2) The material on a Intranet is not available to everyone who accesses the
Internet.
What is a Web
browser?
1) Software used to display Web pages on your computer monitor.
2) Examples of a browser software are: Microsoft Internet Explorer or
Netscape Navigator.
What is the home
page?
1) The 1st page that appears when you start your Web browser.
2) It can also be the 1st page of a organization's or company's website when the
website opens. (Example: The 1st page of the Houston ISD website is
called the homepage of that website).
What is a Search
Engine?
1) It is a tool that processes requests for information and then searches Web
sites for that request.
2) Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator (web browsers) both have search
engines. Click the Search button in the Internet Toolbar to access.
3) Other search engines are web sites such as: MSN, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves Lycos,
Excite, etc.
What is a bookmark?
1) A bookmark flags the location of a website or document so that you can access
it quickly without having to retype the web address or URL.
2) How do I do it? Choose Favorites from the menu bar, then choose
Add to add the website to the Favorites listing.
What is a hyperlink?
1) A hyperlink is a word,
phrase, or picture on the internet, where by clicking it, makes the
internet jump or link to another web page.
2) The user will know something is a hyperlink, when the mouse turns to a hand
if it is placed on the word, phrase or picture.
3) Hyperlinks can also have a underline under them.
What are two
ways to locate a website or URL?
1) Type in the website address directly where it says Address in
your Internet browser.
2) Click the Search button in the Internet browser and then type
in the topic of what you want to search. From here, a listing of related
websites appears that the user can search through in order to look for the
website.
How do I locate
a website, if I don't know the web address or URL?
1) Use the Search button in the Internet browser in order to
search for the web address.
2) The other way is to go to a Search Engine Website such as
Yahoo, Excite, MSN, etc., then search for the topic and a listing of websites
will appear where the user can choose.
What is email?
1) Email is transfer of information in an electronic format.
2) Information is usually sent in memo format. Some free email sites
are: Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.
What is the difference
between downloading and uploading?
1) Download: The term is often used to describe the process of
transferring a file from an online
service to one's own computer
or local network.
2) Upload: To transfer information from your computer to the internet or a
local network.
