LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2000--Two-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner Ted Danson, now starring in the critically acclaimed CBS-TV series ``Becker,'' is set to host the Society of Motion Picture and Television Art Directors' (SMPTAD) Fourth Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards at the organization's black-tie ceremony Saturday, Feb. 26, from the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, it was jointly announced today by SMPTAD President Jack De Govia and Awards Chairman Michael Baugh.
Danson will be assisted by six star presenters. Four categories of production design awards (one for Excellence in Production Design for a 1999 Motion Picture and three for Excellence in 1999 Television) will be presented along with a Lifetime Achievement award to Production Designer Richard Sylbert, as previously announced, and a possible Cinematic Imagery Award to an industry luminary.
Nominations in all four categories will be announced later this week.
Danson won his two Emmys and one Globe between 1988 and 1993 as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (``Cheers''). His other Globe win was in 1984 for Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV-Movie (``Something About Amelia''). He recently was featured in this year's ``Mumford'' and in last year's ``Saving Private Ryan.''
His other major film credits include ``The Onion Field,'' ``Body Heat,'' ``Three Men and a Baby,'' ``Dad'' and ``Made in America.''
