Dry Creek Vineyard is the Toast of Hollywood; Top Sonoma County Wine Producer is Featured Wine at Star-Studded NRDC Benefit

HEALDSBURG, Calif., June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Hollywood turned out on Wednesday, May 31, for the Natural Resources Defense Council benefit, Earth to LA, raising over $1 million for the environmental fund.

Dry Creek Vineyard wines were featured at the VIP party after the evening's program of music by Jewel and Carole King, comedy by Al Franken and Seinfeld co-creator Larry David, and testimonials by Diane Keaton, Cameron Diaz, Rob Reiner and Robert Kennedy Jr. All of the performers were presented with Dry Creek Vineyard's 1997 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and an invitation to visit the family winery and stay in their turn-of-the-century guesthouse.

Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, enjoyed Dry Creek Vineyard's 1997 ``Heritage Clone'' Zinfandel while Christine Lahti preferred the winery's signature 1998 Fume Blanc. Kevin Costner, Dustin Hoffman, Ted Danson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Steven Weber, Ed Begley, Jr. and others sampled a selection of wines, including the winery's classic 1998 Chardonnay and renowned 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Kim Stare Wallace, Dry Creek Vineyard Vice President and daughter of winery founder, David Stare, attended the VIP benefit and explained the benefits of the winery's small-lot blending in order to produce the finest wines. The family's wines, featuring classic sailing yachts on each label, are featured in top restaurants in Los Angeles and are receiving unprecedented attention internationally.

``The opportunity to support the amazing work done by the NRDC is exciting for us,'' said Ms. Wallace. ``At Dry Creek Vineyard, we practice sustainable farming techniques that assure the longevity of the vineyard lands, using alternate tilling techniques and cover crops to encourage beneficial insects and minimize pesticide use. We also employ natural predators, like owls and hawks, instead of harsh chemicals to control pests.''

Established in 1972, Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery to be built in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley since the days of Prohibition. Still a true family winery, now managed by the second generation, their personal quest for superlative wine quality is apparent in every varietal and vintage.
