A disclaimer needs to be inserted at this point. True history and true science never conflict with God's Word. Therefore, in this paper, when the terms, history or science are used, they are often referring to historical and scientific data which are compiled with no authentication with The Word of God for of asserted information, philosophical content theological content or any other category of information which may go into such a study. Briefly, The Word of God can never be corrected or interpreted in light of history or science, but history and science must be interpreted in light of The Word of God.

Remembered by the author from the early 1970's during the Seminex controversy in the LCMS (Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod). What they meant by the term "Jonah was not an historical individual,' is that secular/religious historical research has not confirmed what God's Word asserts; thus, history is the measure of all things, not God's Word.

I use so-called because even though certain facts and data cannot be disputed, but as many have stated in reference to the study of Bibliology, including textual criticism, the sanctified intellect is an absolute necessity in the proper interpretation of such information to produce a product which agrees with God's Word. Otherwise, why call oneself a Christian scholar.
Among many, Edward F. Hills saw the problem very clearly. [T]here are two methods of New Testament textual criticism, the consistently Christian method and the naturalistic method. These two methods deal with the same materials, the same Greek manuscripts, and the same Stations and biblical quotations, but they interpret these materials differently. The consistently Christian method interprets the materials of New Testament textual criticism in accordance with the doctrines of the divine inspiration and providential preservation of the Scriptures. The naturalistic method interprets these same materials in accordance with its own doctrine that the New Testament is nothing more than a human book'
Hills goes on to rebuke the modern method of so-called Christian scholarship: "Sad to say, modern Bible-believing scholars have taken very little interest in the concept of consistently Christian New Testament textual criticism. For more than a century most of them have been quite content to follow in this area the naturalistic methods of Tischendorf, Tregelles, and Westcott and Hort." Edward F. Hills, The King James Version Defended, Fourth Edition 1984, Reprint 1993 (Des Moines: The Christian Research Press, C 1984 Marjorie J. Hills), p. 3.

John 20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
