HAPPENINGS - Empire BBYO is formed, the first Manhattan chapter in
years. Donna Weisblatt's last event was LTI 97, she retires from the
position of Regional Director in September 1997. Hali Herman takes
over as Regional Director in October 1997. Ahava Yisroel BBG folds at
the end of the programming year.

HAPPENINGS - Canarsie chapters begin meeting at Remsen Heights.
Bog'rim BBG and Chohavim BBG merge to form Genesis BBG, but after a
few months they join with Emile Zola BBG as the only canarsie BBG
chapter. Bog'rim AZA and Chazak AZA join Haganah AZA as the only
canarsie AZA chapter. Exodus AZA brings home the International AZAA
Sectionals trophy.

Island) split and became Tzamerit BBG and Achim AZA. Tzamerit BBYO
held the Regional Sweethearts Dance in a club in Staten Island
called "On Stage".

HAPPENINGS - Camoflage BBG beings meeting at Bayterrace JC.
Programming thrust was Ethiopia and Soviet Jewry. On Spring
Convention 1984, Regional Aleph S'gan Bruce Modell mooned the entire
convention body after Boogie Sisters for his last hurrah, while his
mom and dad were staffing! At that Spring Convention, Staten Island
gains its independence, and elected its first area S'gan and S'ganit.
This was the last year that we had a Southern Queens Area Vice, for the
following year, Queens and the Bronx are merged into one area.
