Did you know:
 | that some our cousins belong to the infamous feuding Hatfield's and McCoy's? |
 | that one of Thomas' children (Andrew) was co-indicted for the first murder charge in
Indiana? (Read story) |
 | That if starting with Thomas, each generation had two children who also had two children
(since some had MANY more, and others ???), then with my children's generation, there
should be over 2,000 members of the 10th generation of Thomas' descendants? |
 | more to come as I find other interesting tales....... |
Headscratchers:
 | I've found three other GEDCOMS out on the net including our Thomas, that include our
Thomas and list his parents as James Ferguson and Margaret (?). I've looked at the
GEDCOMS, but can't find any corroborating evidence (like birth records, wills, etc) in the
file. Has anybody else seen these and had any luck corroborating any of it? If
this is true, then it negates any previous thoughts about our Thomas' father being a
Thomas who died at the Battle of King's Mountain. |
 | Anybody have any luck with the Nancy Young/Gillespie mystery? There's a lot of
circumstantial evidence to point more towards the Gillespie name, but there's also nothing
to rule out the Young name either. |
 | UPDATE: (I got this off the
Greene County, Indiana Surname Query Page, and it makes some sense, but no proof as yet).

Surnames: FERGUSON
I quote from information received from a FERGUSON in response to an inquiry I had made:
"I have located Thomas(FERGUSON) Jr.'s grave in Indiana, and have photo copies of the
gravesite. He is buried in the Storm Cemetary, not far from Owensburg., IN. I believe that
Thomas Ferguson was married twice. Records from Tazewell Cty. VA. 1801-1802 show Thomas
Jr. as being married to Nancy GILLESPIE (widow of John BOWEN). This union produced sons
Andrew, William, James, Hiram , Thomas, Ralston, Samuel, Rose, Mary, Polly and Hannah. I
believe that something happened to Nancy GILLESPIE around 1809 because I have a court
record where there was a land transaction that required a private examination of Nancy
GILLESPIE by two justices of Knox Cty., KY.. From this date on and in all future
referrences Nancy YOUNG is listed as Thomas' wife. So either Nancy GILLESPIE passed on and
Thomas married a Nancy YOUNG or Nancy GILLESPIE changed her maiden name for some reason.
Children born after this date are Nancy, John Wesley and Augustine, all of whom list their
mother as Nancy YOUNG.I have some information and photo copies of Andrew FERGUSON and
Peggy ROSS (DUGGER). Andrew and William, born in Prince Edward Co., VA. married sisters,
Margaret "Peggy" and Nancy Ross." ALL OF THE ABOVE I RECEIVED FROM BOB
FERGUSON . I (MAXSON) have additional information regarding the DUGGER connection, if you
have an interest, but shall not include it at present. Hope that this in some way heads
you towards the answer to your questions; it could only help. I doubt it could do any
more. Merry Christmas and a Happy new year.
