DJ (Columbus Short) is a nineteen-year-old street dancer, living in Los Angeles. He seems to be hanging with the wrong crowd and is taking part in underground dance competitions. When DJ loses his younger brother, he enrolls in Atlanta’s Truth University, where at first he doesn’t really fit in. Once he finds out about the school’s two fraternities, who each year compete in a “stepping” competition, he is all about showing off his dance skills. DJ learned some impressive moves on the street and is trying to help the ONO house win the competition. DJ is finally moving in the right direction, keeping up with his studying and dancing, when he also falls in love with April (Meagan Good).
