Everyone rejoices at the birth of Princess Aurora, except for the evil witch Maleficent. Maleficent curses Aurora that before her sixteenth birthday she will die by the prick of the spindle on a spinning wheel. To prevent this, her parents send her to live anonymously in the woods with three good fairies named Flora, Fauna and Merryweather. The fairies raise Aurora as their own child and call her Briar Rose. On her sixteenth birthday, Aurora happens to meet Prince Philip in the woods and they fall in love. Maleficent manages to kidnap Prince Philip and trick Aurora into touching a mystical spinning wheel that she has created. Aurora falls into a deep sleep that can only be broken by a kiss from her true love. Meanwhile, Prince Philip is up against Maleficent and all her evil powers as he tries to escape, defeat her, and rescue his true love Aurora.
