Saint Anthony of Padua, patron saint of lost articles and worthy husbands, is shown here in the blue robe worn by Franciscan friars in the New World. The artist, who worked in the Spanish baroque style in New Mexico during the late eighteenth century, included the lily and the Christ Child but omitted the book commonly seen in European paintings of Saint Anthony.

San Antonio de Padua, cuya intercesión piden los fieles para encontrar un buen marido y objetos perdidos, aparece aquí vestido con el hábito azul que llevaban los franciscanos en el Nuevo Mundo. El artista, que trabajó en Nuevo México a finales del siglo XVIII en el estilo barroco español, incluyó el lirio y el Niño Jesús, pero omitió el libro con el que suelen representar al santo los pintores europeos.
