Working in the mountains above Santa Fe, López carves, paints, and fashions silver in the traditions of his ancestors. "My traditional work let me see how influenced I really was by my heritage, my history. It showed me my roots [and] … opened my eyes. I want to achieve the level … of those old masters … what they captured … emotions so powerful, so moving." On one side of Liturgical Cross is an image of the crucified Christ; on the other is Saint Francis. The mineral inclusions in the clear mica covering add character to the painted surfaces beneath.

En su taller de las montañas que dominan Santa Fe, López talla, pinta, y cincela plata en el estilo tradicional de sus antepasados. "Mi trabajo tradicional me permitió ver lo influenciado que realmente estaba por mi patrimonio cultural, mi historia. Me mostró mis raíces [y] . . . me abrió los ojos. Yo deseo llegar a la altura . . . de esos maestros antiguos . . . lo que captaron . . . las emociones tan profundas, tan conmovedoras". En un lado de la Cruz litúrgica aparece la imagen de Cristo crucificado, en la otra, San Francisco. Las partículas de mineral en la capa de mica transparente añaden carácter a las superficies pintadas de la madera.
