The first half of the book had several humorous scenes. Bilbo is the main character and his friends are all dwarves. Together they can come up with humorous comments and so forth. IOne scene that was funny was when Bilbo and all the dwarves were staying at Beorn's house who was a bear and a human. This in itself is a joking matter to be viewed from my own point of view. "Do you call two several?' 'Well, no. As a matter of fact there were more than two.' 'Where ome?' 'Well no, they don't seem to have come when I whistiled. Shy I expect. You see, we are very much afraid that we are rather a lot fur you to entertain."(pg. 120). II found this part of the book funny because Gandalf (the wizard) kind of out smarted Beorn who did not want many people in his house, just kept telling his story and then stopping at important parts and introducing two more dwarves to Beorn. It was not untill the end of this part when Be are they? Killed, eaten, gone home?' 'Well no, they don't seem to have come when I whistiled. Shy I expect. It was not until the end of this part when Beorrn finally realized how many people were in his house and he could no longer kick them out. A section like this is humourous and also introduces you to the different classes between the charcaters.

A bear to the hobbit was much larger and in this case more frighting. Bilbo and the dwarves faced much larger animals than themselves so this was important to their class. Being the smallest they had to be clever and outsmart their encounters. The wizard helped to do just this. Using his ta n finally realized how many people were in his house and he could no longer kick them out. The wizard helped to do just this. Using his talent he was able to trick a big bear into his own plan of allowing the lowly dwarves to enter. This was an issue throughout the book that the hobbit and his company had to face. So a humorous scene, I feel can tie into the theme of the novel as well.
