Unofficial Magic: the Gathering Events Calendar
version Apr 2, 1999
Compiled by Alex Shvartsman ashv@concentric.net
With special thanks to Alice Coggins, Chris Galvin and everyone else who helped gather this information. The original version of the Magic Calendar was extremely well received. I got numerous e-mails both requesting more information and simply confirming that this compilation of dates is useful. There has been a lot of scheduling changes lately, so I decided to update the Calendar and throw in some more useful information. I will attempt to post a new update every few months or so, as it becomes needed.
Any web site is welcome to copy this post (do not edit please!) and post it. If you are a webmaster and drop me a note, I will make sure to send updates to you directly.
Lost in the Shuffle
Some Grand Prix events have been cancelled or re-scheduled. Says Chris Galvin of WotC:
"Mexico City is removed from the list, being pushed back to early 2000 hopefully. Sao Paulo is moved from July to early in the 99-00 season. GP Singapore is cancelled, but will host the APAC Championship July 1-4."Thanks Chris, keep us updated! Also, to the best of my knowledge Unplugged (Unglued 2) release date has been delayed indefinitely.
Worlds in Asia
It has now been confirmed that World Championship will take place in Japan this year. WOTC is extremely optimistic about the Asian market and will probably hold one Pro Tour per season in Asia, as well as several Grand Prix events.Team Pro Tour Added!
WOTC is working to add another Pro Tour event sometime late in 1999. It will feature 3-man team limited competitions. Most details are undecided as of yet, but it is most likely to be held in USA and teams will probably be invited based on DCI team rankings and a total number of PT points shared by team members (current number considered is 45).More information: http://www.wizards.com/Sideboard/TeamPT.html
Less Money for US. Grand Prix?
European WOTC web site lists the payout for next season's American Grand Prix events as $10,000 total as opposed to the usual $15,000. I guess that means less prize money per event. Hopefully that will also mean more events total.
