This is my SKA page. Here are some of the bandz that i like and some of their past. Also their are linx on each one, so you can go to their homepages. If you have any comments on my page, my address is on the bottom.
Sax-o-Tromba is a ska group from Cleveland, Ohio. At 1st, the group had only 6 people in it (Dave,Ben,Bob,Scott,Todd, and Mark). Then they added 2 members (+ Theo, Craig, and Tony; and - Bob). Then recently they have added 2 new players, which are a bass player and a trumpet player. The 1st Cd called Supafantastic sold a lot of copies so they play on the radio stations in their town because they're so popular there. Now they're gonna be on a new comp. called "Hey Brother Can You Spare Some Ska 3", that they made w/ some other bandz. Almost all of Sax-o-Tromba's shows are in Ohio, so that kinda sux for those of us who dont live there. But over-all, they kick ass.
The Blue Meanies has 7 members who all live in Chicago. Some of the Cd's the group has made, are: Urine Trouble, Pave the World, and some other singles in the early 90's. Also The Blue Meanies worked w/ some other groups to make some comps., like "The Amer. Skathic" (I and II) and "The Misfits of Ska". They came out w/ a new CD in 95' called Kiss Your Ass Goodbye!(good cd)--which I think is really good. The Cd includes songs like: Polka in the Eye, Average Amer. Superhero, and Vote No. And also, there cd Full Throttle is really good too..SMASH THE MAGNAVOX
The Supertones are a 7 piece christian band from Orange County, Cali. They made their 1st album in May 96' called the Adventures of the OC Supertones. Another album they made was called Supertones Strike Back. One of their songs "Little Man" was played a lot on 120 min.s on MTV, which helped the group win a little popularity. Some of the Supertones songs include: SUPERTONES STRIKE BACK (song as Cd title), So Great A Salvation, Like No One Else, and Grace Flood. Oh and now they're coming out w/ a new cd called CHASE THE SUN.
The pietasters are 7 people: Jackson, Eckhardt, Tom, Toby, Jeremy, Alan, and Rob. They formed in 1990 and were classified as a underground 3rd wave ska band. Now in 97' w/ all the other ska bandz around, ska isn't underground anymore. Some of their recordz include: PIETASTERS, Oolooloo, STRAPPED (the live album), and WILLIS, the newest album made in 97', and a personal favorite.
The FATFOOTS are an awesome 3 piece band from Vermont. They are Matt (vocals), Howie (bass), and Chris (drums). Their music doesn't exactly have horns in it, so it wouldn't exactly be considered ska; but it is really good and the music has a cool upbeat, fun sound like ska. This group is really good!! I think the best songs are: Gonna blow, Pay the price, and Tate Street. I sent off for their demo tape at the beginning of the yr. and i'll tell you, it's really good!!!
Buck-o-NineBuck-o-Nine started out in November of 92' when all 7 band members got together to perform their 1st gig. The nite before thanksgiving they were opening up for No Doubt. That December, they released a 8 track demo tape called BUCK NAKED, that sold almost 1,000 copies. They became very popular and up to today, they have made 4 CDs: SONGS IN THE KEY OF BREE, BARFLY and WATER IN MY HEAD; both done in 95', and 28 TEETH;which was one of their most recent recordz. Some good songs are: Dr. Kitch, Milk?, Few too Many, 28 Teeth, Happy Stay, andTear Jerky.
Almost everyones heard of Save Ferris. They were formed in 95' and are classified as underground 3rd wave ska. The band consists of: Monique (singer), Brian(guitar and backup), Jose(trumpet), T-Bone (former Knuckle Brothers trombonist), Mark (drummer), Eric(sax), and Bill (bassist) all being from Southern California. Their epic album, IT MEANS EVERYTHING, sold millions. Some of the songs included are: Spam, Under 21, Superspy, Come on Eileen (which was a re-make of the Dexy's Midnight Runner's in 83'), and Goodbye. Another good song is For You, which is unrealeased. They have really good concerts, so if you have a chance, go to one.
DHC is made up of 5 musicians. Two chik singers, Elyse and Karina; two guitarists, Jason and Scott; a bassist, Mikey; and drummer, Gavin. They group has made 4 cds: (the 1st single) Honey I'm Homely, the Old Record (same as...)The 1989-1992 Record, LOCKJAW, and ENOUGH. Some good songs are: Shelley, Pick Up Lines, Java Junkie, Mr. Blue, Nuisance, and Day Job. Also, see Save Ferris (my fav. gurl ska group).
MU330 has got to be my absolute favorite SKA band ever. They are sooo good. Um..some cds they've put out are: PRESS, CHUMPS ON PARADE, CRAB RANGOON, a demo, a split 7 w/ blue meanies, SALAMANDER STEW (that you cant find anymore), and there newest self-titled cd made in march. Mu330 is really good and if you haven't ever heard them, then I feel sorry for you...
Let's go Bowling is from California and is: singer Darren, Lincoln, Gilbert, Paul, Adam, Mark, Patrick, and Mike. They say that the Skatalites and Black Sabbath were their favorite music influence when they were younger. There are a couple Let's Go Bowling albums out. Including MR. TWIST, MUSIC TO BOWL BY, (both really good) and the new album (w/ some live performances).
