Their ability to keep tanks clean lessen with age, replace after 3 or 4 years or as they become aggressive towards other tank mates. It is not uncommon for these fish as they age to attach themselves to the bodies of other fish and literally eat the protective slime coating off these fish. |

There is another fish out there called a Chinese Algae Eater which is more popular in the hobby and these more aggressive fish are often mistakenly sold as them. |
