Chapter 3
"Guess what?" Jaime said while watching cartoons
with Skye, "Daddy will be home tomorrow."
"I know."
"Honey are you ok?"
"Mommy, I'm so tired. Is somethin wrong with me?"
"I don't know. Maybe you should just go to bed early tonite."
"Ok. Good night mommy."
Skye went upstairs and went tot bed.
"Skye? Come on honey wake up. Daddy will be home in a few hours." Skye just turned away.
"Come on baby. Get up." This time she didn't move. She didn't even flinch. Jaime picked her up and took her to the hospital. Kevin was in the airport terminal headed for his car when she called. As soon as she said she had taken Skye to the hospital he began to run for his car. Jaime was sitting in the waiting room when she heard someone walk in.
"What's wrong with Skye? Why is she here?"
"I don't know Kevin. I couldn't wake her up. She's been so tired."
"The only time my cell phone rings is when it's you. I got worried as soon as I heard it. When you said Skye was in the hospital, I ran all the way to the car. The guys told me to call them when I could."
AJ, Brian, Nick Howie and Kevin were all very close. Because of this Brian, Nick, AJ and Howie were Skye's godfathers.
"So that means, you haven't heard from the doctor yet?"
"Not a word. I am so scared. She just turned four. It just happened, she just got sick one day. I thought it was just a bug or cold or something. She got better, but then it." Kevin wrapped Jaime in his arms and held tight.
"She'll be ok. She'll be ok." They sat down and waited. Kevin was still holding Jaime in his arms. She slowly began to drift into sleep.
"Jaime, honey, wake up."
"What? Is Skye ok?"
"The doctor wants to speak with us."
Jaime sat straight up.
"Where's Skye? Is she awake?" Jaime asked the doctor
"She's in her room. She want's to see you two, but I wanted to talk to you first." The doctor said.
"Ok, you have our attention. How is my daughter?" Kevin asked.
"All I can say is we ran some tests, and the results aren't in yet. We'll let you know as soon as we do."
"Can we see her?" Jaime asked
'Of course. She's in room 107" Jaime didn't wait. She ran to Skye's room. Kevin finished talking to the doctor. When he finally walked down he stopped in the doorway. He watched Jaime stroke Skye hair. Jaime looked at him.
"Kevin what's wrong?"
"She's so tiny in that bed."
"I know. She looks so weak."
"Probably from the tests they ran."
"Yeah."
"Well," Kevin began, "She has to got through a whole other round tomorrow. At least that is what the doctor told me."
"Oh no. Poor thing." Kevin just stood there and collected his thoughts.
"Go home Jay."
"Huh? What?"
"Go home. Go to bed, you look exhausted. Brian is staying there so you won't be alone. I'll stay here."
"But Kevin."
"Go." He said softly as he gently kissed her lips. They held each other tight. Jaime left. Kevin sat by Skye's bed and watched her sleep. The tour had left him exhausted, so he began to dose off. Soon he was asleep.
"Daddy."
"Huh?" Kevin said groggily.
"Hi daddy."
"Hi baby. How are you feeling."
"Ok. I just don't want anymore shots."
"I know, but you'll have more tomorrow."
"No." Skye said as she began to cry.
"Shhhhh, honey don't cry. I'll be with you. Don't cry." Kevin whispered as he wiped away her tears. He wanted to hold her, but he couldn't. She eventually fell asleep.
"Everything will be ok. I promise." Kevin whispered into Skye's ear before he too fell asleep.
