Past Activities
In the past two and a half decades, the Association For British Muslims has engaged in a number of activities. Some of the more noteworthy are listed below:-
a) held classes at the Islamic Cultural Centre, London,
on the following subjects: "Practical Islam for
Beginners", "Introduction to Islam",
"Basics of Islam";

b) conducted marriages and burials;
-
c) provided a service of Islamic instruction to non-Muslim
schools in Britain;
-
d) held occasional conferences, for example in London
and North-East England;
-
e) published a monthly bulletin, as well as a Junior
Bulletin;
-
f) distributed articles and fact-sheets on the basics
of Islam through the ABM mail-order "Shop"
[a booklist and bulletins were also available];
-
g) established a youth organisation for students and
younger members;
-
h) organised group visits to the Islamic Cultural Centre/London
Central Mosque for school children, along with a lecture
about Islam;
-
i) lectured at various schools around the country;
-
j) made frequent visits to hospitals and prisons.

k) provided - as we still do - a counselling and advice service dealing with most of the issues afflicting the Muslim communities here.

l) through certain members been deeply involved in Bosnia.
A number of convoy crews were British Muslims, because
of the racial policy of the Croats (anyone not white
met a great deal of suspicion as being a possible "mujahid").
One member, Ibrahim Golightly Shaheed, the Field Manager for
Phoenix Aid International Direct, was killed in Sarajevo
in 1995.
