Verutum

This is an older fighter,
introduced during the KessRith campaign. The concept was for a
light fighter capable of both interception and stand-off strikes.
The design for the Verutum pushed through by Illustrus Senator
Lewis. Great numbers were produced. The Verutum suffered many
problems early on. The acceleration was not as good as it should
have been, and many were mysteriously exploding during combat. An
investigation board, headed by Illustrus Senator Lewis, found
that the problems with the Verutum were in fact the result of
poor maintenance. Eventually, it was discovered that Illustrus
Senator Lewis was heavily involved with the company that produced
the Verutum, and had used his power to push the production
through, even though the design was flawed. The Senator was
executed, and the company's assets were seized by the government.
The existing Verutums were re-fitted, and the ship was fine after
that. Currently, the Verutum is being slowly phased out of
service.
