Soul Asylum will release their new album, Candy From a Stranger, on May
12, marking the Minneapolis-based group's first recording since 1995's
Let Your Dim Light Shine. Though they haven't released an album in more
than three years, Dave Pirner and the gang have managed to keep
themselves rather busy. After penning the score to the Kevin Smith film
Chasing Amy, Pirner headed out on tour as drummer for The O'Jeez, a band
that also includes ex-Geraldine Fibber Jessy Greene. Guitarist Dan
Murphy, who wrote one new song for Candy, has joined Golden Smog in the
studio and hung out with the Jayhawks on their latest tour. Fans of
bassist Karl Mueller can check him out at Minneapolis' 400 Club, where
he's been spotted playing DJ with Babes in Toyland frontwoman Lori
Barbero.
On a sadder note, drummer Sterling Campbell has officially left the
band. Auditions for new drummers are well underway and will be filled by
the time Soul Asylum embarks on their next tour. (Lana Fanelli)
