Joints

Types of joints:

Ball & Socket: The ball and socket joint works by one bone, with a ball shaped end, having the ball end fit into the other bone which is usually shaped like a hollow with a large hole for the "ball" to fit in. This kind of joint is found in the shoulder and hip joints.

Hinge joint: The hinge joint consists of two bones connected at on end with the abbility to move. These are very similiar to the hinges on doors in your own house. This kind of joint is found in the elbow and knee.

Gliding joint: The gliding joint is made of two bones, and one bone glides right over the other bone. This type of joint is found in your vertebrae.

Pivot joint: A pivot joint is made of two bones. One bone slides around the other in a pivot motion. This type of joint can be found in the lower arm.

Immovable: The immovable joint consists of two bones that are permanently jointed together. These joints are found in the skull.
