The rispiratory system works because of air pressure. Your diaphram, a muscle located under your lungs, moves up, pushing the lungs up. When the lungs go up, air is pushed out of your lungs, and, thus, our of your body. When the diaphram contracts, air comes in. Air first passes through your mouth and down the top of your throat to the pharynx. The air then passes by the epiglottis which stops any water or food from going down your trachea. Air goes down the thrachea, into the bronchi, and finally into the lungs.
