PONY TAIL

 

 

Requirements:

1.       6 Decks of cards

2.       4 to 6 players

 

Scoring:

1.       Each book has a set value and you may have as many of each of these as you can make.

a.       7’s …………………… 5000 points

b.       The wild book ………...2500 points

c.       The red book ………….500 points

d.       The black book …….…300 points

2.       After you have totaled the score for your books, you must add the score for each individual card per the following:

a.       Jokers …………………..50 points

b.       A’s ……………………...20 points

c.       K through 8 …………….10 points

d.       7 through 3 ……………...5 points

e.       Red 3’s which you have collected are worth 100 points each

f.        Black 3’s you have in your hand are minus 100 points each

3.       The team that doesn’t go out must count all the cards in their hands against their total score.

4.       If this team has not picked up their Pony Tail every card in each Pony Tail also counts against that team.

 

Beginning Play:

1.       Deal 15 cards (The hand) for each player to start.

2.       Deal 13 cards (Pony tail) to be placed in the center of the table.

3.       Person who deals (The hand) is considered the dealer.

4.       Partner to dealers left deals Pony Tail and must start with the same person as the dealer.

5.       Designate one member of your team to collect closed books and red 3’s and another to collect open books.

6.       Person to dealers left begins by taking the card that is face up or drawing two cards from the top of the deck.

7.       If you have any red 3’s in your hand you give them to the person collecting the books and draw a new card from the deck for everyone in your hand. You do not draw a new card for red 3’s from your Pony Tail.

8.       That player may then meld or add to the books his partners have started. This person than discards to the next player.

9.       The person picking up the discard pile must use the top card to make a play, laying down three like cards or two like cards and a wild card.

10.   If the pile is frozen the next player must have two of the card discarded in order to pick up the pile.

11.   The pile is considered frozen when a player discards a deuce, a joker or a “7”.

12.   If you have two deuces or two jokers or two 7’s when one of these is discarded you may pick up the pile.

13.   Each person continues in this manner throughout the game.

Object:

  1. Pair off in teams; every other person is on the same team, works well with men against women when couples play.
  2. The first object is to Meld. This means making a play of at least three cards of the same number. Any number of such plays may be made.
  3. You may meld by laying a set of wild cards such as two deuces and a joker, two jokers and a deuce, three jokers, three deuces, or as many above three of these as you have in your hand and need to lay to meld.
    1. 0-15000……….meld 50 points
    2. 15000-30000….meld 90 points
    3. 30000-50000….meld 120 points
  4. You will next try to close out each book, which must consist of 7 cards with the following guidelines.
    1. A natural or red book contains (7) cards of like numbers i.e. 8’s,K’s,A’s, etc.
    2. A black book has at least (4) like numbers and up to three wild cards deuces or jokers. This book must have at least one wild card.
    3. The wild book must have (7) jokers and deuces combined in any number.
    4. Another book, which is required, is a red book of 7’s.
  5. When a team closes its first book, the individual to do so may pick up his Pony Tail and play it out any way he wants.
  6. Each player on this person’s team may than pick up their Pony Tail when it is their turn.
  7. Each team must collect the above mentioned (4) books before they can try to end the hand.
  8. The hand is over when one member of a team can play all his cards and has one left for a discard. (Must have a discard).
