Reenactment of the 2nd flag raising on 19 February 1966. The 21st Anniversary of the invasion. The island of Iwo Jima offers a spectacular backdrop the image of the marines raising the flag.

A final parting shot taking from the area near my barracks on the flight line. The image is of the most famous landmark -- Mt. Suribachi. Note how the island has reclaimed almost the entire landscape with vegetation again -- which had almost totally disappeared during the invasion and battle for control of the island.
