The former luxury liner, SS MANHATTAN, the USS WAKEFIELD (AP-21) was comissioned a Navy troop transport manned by Coast Guard personnal on 15th June, 1941 in New York City, New York under the command of Captain Harold G. Bradbury, USCG.
