Dragonspell is a Christian Fantasy which is well written and has some great characters. It is interesting to note that the dragons are the good guys in this story.

The weakness of Dragonspell is that the world doesn't seem right. It is a non Earth fantasy with rich details; but, in my opinion, the pieces don't fit together quite right. For example, in one case, Paladin, the all knowing and powerful character (see more about Paladin below.) sent only two people, on dragons, to rescue Kale from the Grawligs (monsters). He would have send either more people or a dragon mount for Kale to ride back.

However, Ms. Paul's certainly make up for that in the characters. Kale is a slave girl whose discovers that her talent is finding dragon eggs.

In an interesting turn of events, she is given her freedom to get rid of her and the dragon egg (mostly the egg). The evil wizard Risto wants to have Kale find the Meech dragon egg so he can use it to create new species.

On Kale’s travels, to find and save the Meech egg, she encounters, Dar, her companion and protector. He is a valiant fighter who is particular about his clothes. Leetu is the wise guide; Fenworth is an absent minded wizard with other interesting people and monsters to fill out the story.

Another interesting element is the character, Paladin, the all powerful servant of Wulder (God). Normally, I don’t care for all powerful creatures, it is hard to write effective stories with such characters; however, Ms. Paul did have a scene where she address the problem of all powerful good and evil (If God is all good and all powerful, why is there evil? Either God is not all powerful or He is not all good.) She does a good job explaining how God can be all powerful and all good at the same time.

Overall, a Highly Recommended Book in which I hope there are sequels.
