There are 10 casinos currently operating in Central City, including Central Palace, Coyote Creek, Doc Holliday, Dostal Alley, Famous Bonanza, Golden Rose, Gold Coin, Harvey's Wagon Wheel, Lucky Strike, Easy Street, and the Teller House. The collective number of devices which includes slot machines, black jack tables and poker tables is just over 3,000 at this writing.

There are 7 Bed-N-Breakfasts, 5 retail shops including the Candy Store, Santa Fe Central, Dostal Alley Brew Pub, Bear Mountain Trading Post and Annie Oakley's convenience store. All are located along Main street except Bear Mountain which is between Central Palace and Coyote Creek casinos.

Central City has an excellent museum, the Gilpin County Museum which is located on 1st street directly above Central Palace Casino. The Opera House opened in 1878 and today is the oldest operating Opera House in the United States, located 1/2 block north of the Teller House.

City offices including the City Manager, historical preservation, planning, information, etc., are located in the Nevada House building, west of Annie Oakleys at the South end of Main Street. Public works is located in the historic Washington Hall building on Eureka, directly across from the Teller House. As you enter Central City US279 divides into one-way streets. The Street heading North into Central City is known as Lawrence and the name changes to Eureka at Main Street.

The local newspapers are the Register Call and the Gilpin Gazette Crusader.

The nearest medical building is between Central City and Black Hawk, the Columbine Medical Center. Anyone in need of medical assistance can go to the clinic, although, you may want to check with your insurance to see if you or they will pay the cost of an office visit.

There is currently one paved road that leads to Central City, US 119. WE 6 through Golden, or I-70, which connects with US 119 to a 3-4 mile stretch of US 6, can reach this highway, which connects with US 119. Central City plans to build a new road from Idaho Springs at the Hidden Valley interchange; however, this road will not be completed for at least 3 years.

As of today, Harvey's is the second largest casino in Colorado with over 44,000 square feet, 118 hotel rooms, 700 covered parking spaces and 1,000+ slots and table games.

The Central City Shuttle system is an intra-city transportation system, which is free to all passengers. Buses pick-up and drop off passengers from Central City's free municipal lots located 1 mile west of Main Street. The shuttle also provides free transportation between Central City and Black Hawk.
