Turok: "Battle of the Bionosaurs" Game by Acclaim and Bit Managers Reviewed by The Avaradancer Size: 4 Megabits Save: Password, Alphabetic, TEN charcaters. Released: 1997 Works with: Any version of Gameboy. Opening Snide Remarks: I M Turok! No! I R Turok! Oh, I S Turok! Ignore all that. Turok is here in a sidescrolling game by Acclaim. Hmm. Whatever. The Bionosaurs are fighting! Kill them Turok! Or something like that. Here's the review. Gameplay: Think "Contra"; but not as mindless. Put together a little of "The Prince of Persia" and spice up the batch with big bada** bosses. Now simmer in some nice and big areas that span tons of space. Dash a few pattern based bad guys with weapons and toss in Dinosaurs. Crank up the difficulty to a nice healthy glow and BOOM! You have Turok. This game plays really well. The weapons are nice. You can shoot in seven directions and the bosses is big. Yup, this is an excellent side-scroller that stands out because of it's vast level design and killer challenge level. It play a little like the old game "Out of this World" or "Flasback". You have to do stuff in some of the levels. :) Graphics: Acclaim.... you know those guys who do animation for Bit Managers? You are not paying them enough. This game has some SMOOTH animation! The graphics are nicely done too. There's no Super Gameboy pallettes though. :( The animation is buttery shooth. Very well done. The bosses are nice too. Lots of dinosaurs for me to kill and the dinosaurs look cool. I wish each weapon had a different type of firing sprite. Most all the guns shoot a ball. Sound: Basic sounds, but they are appropriate to the on-screen action. Clear and well done. Music: Somewhat annoying, but appropriate to each level. Although the music becomes tedious and bad. Eww. Play Control: Great Animation sometimes equals bad control. That is NOT the case here. GOOD control, you can control Turoks many moves. The only flaw here is switching weapons requires you to hold SELECT and press left or right. No big deal though. Final Analysis: Thirsting for action and Side-scrolling adventure? A game with big worlds, maze-like levels, great weapons, nasty enemies, and a sense of intelligence is waiting for you in this Game Pak! Check it out. One of the best side-scrollers I have played. Very well made. Nice job. My complaint? The passwords are too long. It isn't fair to have to put in such long passwords. Geez Louise!.
