History of Cheatham Public Library

The Cheatham County Public Library opened its doors on October 7, 1967, with one room and eight shelves in an upstairs room of the Cheatham County Courthouse.  The first book was checked out to Parker Cashdollar, entitled How the Millionaires Made Their Money.  That first year the library circulated 4,616 books.

After four years the library moved to a house on Elizabeth Street beside the Board of Education Office in Ashland City.  In December of 1981, the library moved to its present location on Main Street.

Jackie Strunk was the first librarian.   The founding board members were: Glover Dale Baker, Grace Albright, J.C. Balthrop, Kenneth Dowlen, Johnny Hagewood, Sherry Hunter, and Mickey Smith.
