The purpose of this document is to introduce myself as an English student to anyone out there who cares enough to even bother with visiting this site. The way I see it there are five areas that someone must focus on to make themselves a better english student. Those five areas are reding, writing, viewing and speaking. And since you cared enough to come to this out of the way site you will get the treat of listening to how I view myself in each of these categories.

To begin we'll start with reading. Unlike most people I enjoy reading, because it calms me down and takes me out of my everyday life. I'm not saying that I spend my entire life reading, but when I do read, I enjoy it. Some of my past favorites have been, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, by Ken Kesey, The Autobiography of Malcom X, Cry the Beloved Country, Farenheit 451 and A Clockwork Orange. I see myself as a perceptive reader who reads for enjoyment and usually picks up on any type of allegory thta the author is using.Click Me I'm A Link to Matt's Annoted Reading List

Next, how I view myself as a writer. I feel that I am a developing writer. I prefer to write short stories to any essays or expository writer. I feel that as a creative writer I am much stronger and creative than as an expository writer, usually because on creative assignments I have more freedom and I enjoy working with it. I ope to develop more as awriter this year in english and I will focus on expository writing and make myself stronger in that area.

As a listener I consider myself perceptive and attentive. Although I have been known to add the occasional humourous remark into any seriuos conversation I still tend to out of politeness to give the speaker my full attention, becuse that's what I would want if I were speaking.

Then there's myself as a viewer, I enjoy viewing any AV presentation in school mainly because it takes away from the monotony of class. I feel that the ancient Chinese proverb is true, a picture is worth a thousand words. And that's why even more than i enjoy reading books, I enjoy watching movies. And since I've been watching TV since I was young I don't think that I need to improve as a viewer at all.

Finally there's how I view myself as a speaker... badly. I have a problem with speaking infront of people that I have improved over the past couple of years, but I still can't help feeling embarassed when i get up in front of a large group to speak. This is the one area out of them all that I feel I really need to work on and improve on this year in english.

The purpose of this website is to post all of my work from english this quarter on-line. A virtual portfolio if you will. I hope you enjoy my work an will watch me as I improve as a reader, writer, listener, viewer, and speaker.
